Good morning, everybody. The 10,085th meeting of the Security Council is called to an order.

As this is the first formal meeting of the Security Council this year, I should like to extend my warm wishes on the New Year to all members of the Security Council, the United nations and the Secretariat.

In presiding over this first formal meeting of the council in 2026, I'm happy to welcome the new members. Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Latvia and Liberia. We look forward to their participation in the work of the Council. Their experience and wisdom will be invaluable assistance in the discharge of the Council's responsibility.

I shall also take this opportunity to express the Council's gratitude to the outgoing members, namely Algeria, Guyana, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia for their important contributions to the work of the Council during their terms.

I should also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute on, on behalf of the Council To His Excellency Mr. Samuel Zobagar, a permanent representative of Slovenia, for his service as the President of the Council for the month of December.
