They are\nexponential.\n\nThe longer this vital artery is choked, the harder it\nwill be to reverse the damage.\n\nAnd the higher the cost to humanity.\n\nDeveloping countries will be hit the hardest, as crushing\ndebt impedes their ability to cope.\n\nWith lost jobs, deeper poverty, and more hunger.\n\nThe crisis has already locked in losses for months to\ncome.\n\nEvery day that ships cannot move escalates these costs\nand amplifies their reverberations across the global economy.\n\nMy message to all parties is clear:\n\nNavigational rights and freedoms must be restored\nimmediately, as affirmed by the Security Council in Resolution 2817.\n\nOpen the Strait.\n\nLet all ships pass.\n\nLet the global economy breathe again.\n\nThat requires more than physical reopening.\n\nIt requires shipping to be safe, predictable and\ninsurable.\n\nSimultaneously, I urge all parties to refrain from\nactions that could undermine the ceasefire.\n\nI have remained in close contact with a number of\nparties, as has my Personal Envoy Jean Arnault.\n\nAll our interlocutors – independent of their\ndifferent perspectives – recognize the need to work towards a peaceful, comprehensive,\nand durable resolution to the conflict.\n\nIn the meantime, the UN system is working to mitigate\nthe impact of the current crisis.\n\nThe Secretary-General of the International Maritime\nOrganization, Arsenio Dominguez, is developing a framework to securely evacuate\nships and seafarers from the conflict zone provided it is safe to do so.\n\nAnd the head of the UN Office of Project Services,\nJorge Moreira da Silva, who is leading the UN Task Force for the Strait of\nHormuz, will be heading to the region to continue his active consultations for\na possible humanitarian corridor to be ready if the worst-case scenarios\nmaterialize.\n\nDear members of the media,\n\nNow is the time for dialogue.\n\nFor solutions that pull us back from the brink.\n\nAnd for measures that can open a pathway to peace.\n\nThe world is waiting.\n\nThank you.","categories":["Media","Media
