The meeting will bring together governments, international organizations, the private sector, civil society and Indigenous Peoples to advance international cooperation on transparent, equitable and sustainable critical mineral value chains. Discussions will also support implementation of the Secretary-General's Panel recommendations on Critical Energy Transition Minerals.
High-Level opening Multi-stakeholder plenary A High-Level plenary will provide a political platform for government and non-state representatives to share their priorities. Critical energy transition minerals are essential components in many of today's rapidly growing clean energy technologies - from wind turbines and solar panels to electric vehicles and battery storage. Demand for critical minerals is set to almost triple by 2030 as the world transitions from fossil fuels to renewable energy in order to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions to net zero by 2050. The High-level meeting on critical energy transition minerals will provide a multi-stakeholder platform for governments, the private sector, industry, civil society and Indigenous Peoples to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities linked to critical energy transition minerals, build trust and agree on areas to strengthen international cooperation. The meeting will also provide a space for the United Nations Task Force in Critical Energy Transition Minerals to share implementation progress on the technical and country support work being carried in support of the UN Guiding Principles and Actionable Recommendations on Critical Energy Transition Minerals.
